Volunteer — and help make a difference
Advertiser Staff
This week is senior volunteer week, and it's not too late to help out. Got time on your hands? Dolores Hansen did. "I volunteered to serve the community, and I love it!" says the advisory council chairwoman for senior volunteer programs. Through the Senior Companions Program and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, people 55 and older can share their experience and skills (minimum 20 hours a week) in many ways, such as advocacy through Family Court, tutoring at school Head Start centers, being an ambassador of aloha at Bishop Museum or teaching adults how to read and write. For those who are looking to get back in the job force, Senior Respite offers training services for people who need an extra boost.
Senior Companions and Senior Respite: 586-5192.
Retired Senior Volunteer Program: 586-5191.

FINAL WORD
"Hip-hop gave (Don) Imus the language. He wouldn't have known what a 'ho' was if it weren't for rap records."
