The Maryknoll junior varsity baseball team hit four consecutive home runs in a 17-14 win over Pac-Five in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu playoff game Saturday at Central O'ahu Regional Park.
With one out in the top of the first inning, Josh Arakaki, the third batter, homered with Gonzo Ayers on base. Matt Guzman, Puna Choo and Nate Choy then followed with solo homers to make it 5-0.
Arakaki and Guzman homered to right field and Choo and Choy homered to center.
Arakaki, the team's leading hitter, later hit a three-run homer.
"I don't think they realized what they did," coach Kevin Uyehara said. "They were enjoying and celebrating as far their teammates hitting home runs. But actually the magnitude of what they did, I don't think they realize how unusual that was."
The Spartans finished the season 2-8 after going 0-7 in the regular season and having most of their games end early because of the 10-run rule.
The outfield of Saturday's game was 280 feet from home plate. Most outfields for varsity games are 320 feet from home, and Uyehara pointed out one of those four consecutive homers would've cleared the farther distance.
The Spartans practice at Mo'ili'ili Field, but are at the batting cages when games are being played there.
"Maybe it's because we're in the batting cages all the time," assistant coach Steve Choo joked.
