Funds freed up for Gartley Hall

Gov. Linda Lingle yesterday released $951,000 for renovation design plans of Gartley Hall at the University of Hawai'i- Manoa.
The hall, constructed in 1921, is set to undergo a $12 million renovation, which will include improving access for people with disabilities and modernizing classrooms and labs.
One of the oldest buildings on campus, the hall is on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
The design phase of the project will start next month and be completed in February 2008. Construction will follow. Interim Manoa Chancellor Denise Konan said the hall is home to the psychology department.
