Blangiardi selected president of Na Koa

Rick Blangiardi, a former University of Hawai‘i football player and assistant coach, has been named president of the school’s football booster club, Na Koa, it was announced.
Blangiardi, general manager and president of KGMB-TV, replaces Tony Guerrero, who has become chairman of ‘Ahahui Koa Anuenue, the athletic department booster organization. Vice chairman Don Takaki is scheduled to replace Guerrero in 2008.
Blangiardi played for UH from 1965-66 and coached there from 1972-76.

HAWAI‘I COMPETITORS AMASS 12 GOLD MEDALS
Hawai'i judoka won 23 medals, including 12 golds, at the Junior U.S. Open last weekend in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Nearly 600 athletes competed in the two-day tournament.
Taylor Ibera, of Hawai'i Tenri, won both the Juvenile B and the IJF Junior under-97-pound divisions.
Shobukan's Joshua Terao (Intermediate 2, under 68 pounds), Kekoa Morris (Intermediate 2, under 92 pounds), Zorich Palimo'o (Intermediate 1, under 75 pounds), Jacob Palimo'o (Juvenile A, under 80 pounds), Bishop Rapoza (Bantam, under 68 pounds) and Dane Pestano (Intermediate 2, over 132 pounds) also won their divisions.
Hawai'i Tenri's Mindy Chow (Juvenile A, under 116 pounds), Chrissy Chow (Juvenile B, under 97 pounds), Teniya Alo (Bantam, under 50 pounds) and Teshya Alo (Intermediate 1, under 66 pounds) won divisions in girls competition.

SECOND SEEDS MAATTA, TRIBLER GAIN SEMIFINALS
Second seeds Mika Maatta and Jan Axel Tribler defeated fifth seeds Channon Alcon and Ryan Sceats, 6-2, 6-2, last night in a quarterfinal match of the Blue Moon Men’s Night Doubles tournament at the Kailua Racquet Club.
In another quarterfinal, fourth seeds Bradley Lum-Tucker and Jesse Paer beat seventh seeds William Ball and Torin Ching, 6-2, 6-2.
