Kamehameha shaping up plan

Kamehameha Schools is developing plans for its North Shore property and expects to have a draft ready for community review by November.
Planners have conducted about 20 community meetings since July 2006 — including one yesterday in Hale'iwa — and are investigating options for the trust's 26,000 acres. Those include educational components, a community cultural center, environmental aspects and tourism.
In the meantime, the trust will spend $2.5 million to improve infrastructure for its plantation property that it is subdividing into seven to 10 long-term agriculture leases, said asset manager Giorgio Caldarone.
