A Lualualei woman was reported to be in serious condition after being stabbed in the neck yesterday morning at her home.
She was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, officials said.
Police said the 38-year-old woman had a temporary restraining order against her husband, 43. Neighbors said he was at the home yesterday and an argument took place.
After the woman was stabbed at 7:55 a.m., the man reportedly took a 2- or 3-year-old boy — described by neighbors as the couple's son — from the apartment at 87-820 Farrington Highway and took off down Farrington Highway. Two neighbors followed the man, who was holding two steak knives and reportedly stabbed himself while walking down the highway.
A block from the victim's home, near Ho'okele Street, the man released the boy unharmed. The neighbors grabbed the boy and police took the man into custody, police said.
Other neighbors helped the woman, who had collapsed outside her apartment.
The alleged assailant was transported in stable condition to Hawaii Medical Center-West in Waipahu with police accompanying him, said Bryan Cheplic, city emergency services spokesman.
Police booked the man for investigation of attempted murder and violating the terms of a restraining order.
