The Honolulu Fire Department yesterday estimated damage from Monday's fire that destroyed two homes on Maunalani Heights to be $700,000 — $300,000 to the structures and $50,000 to the contents of each home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, HFD spokesman Capt. Terry Seeling said in a news release.
The 8:09 a.m. fire gutted homes at 3802 and 3804 Mariposa Drive.
Billowing smoke could be seen as far away as the University of Hawai'i-Manoa campus.
Three people escaped without injury from 3802 Mariposa Drive, where the fire may have started.
