Blossoming under first-year head coach Chad Giesseman, McKinley won the OIA White Conference Eastern Division and swept top postseason honors after a vote of division coaches.
Brenda Walker, a 5-foot-5 sophomore outside hitter, was named Player of the Year. Giesseman was Coach of the Year.
Walker's versatility helped the Tigers capture the division title. "As a freshman last year, she was a 5-4 middle blocker and yet she would sometimes lead the team in kills," Giesseman said. "Now, she can play outside hitter, middle, opposite; she hasn't set yet, but I wouldn't doubt she could do that, too ... that's why she's so valuable."
Walker is joined on the all-star first team by fellow Tigers Pearly Togiai and Naleo Luis-Mateo, Farrington's Tiana Faafiti-Samuseva and Keui Remigio, Kalaheo's Mariah Panapa and Kiana Wasson, and Castle's Kelsie Bajet.
Giesseman said Togiai, a 5-7 senior middle blocker, played her best in the biggest matches.
Giesseman considers Luis-Mateo, a 5-2 senior, to be "the best libero in Division II, probably in the state."
Samuseva, a 5-10 senior outside hitter, and Remigio, a 5-8 junior middle, helped Farrington challenge for the division title and eventually defeat McKinley for the overall White crown.
Juniors Panapa (5-10) and Wasson (5-9) helped Kalaheo contend, and Bajet — a 5-5 senior setter — helped Castle earn a state tournament berth.
