Mana Hopkins scored 13 points, Kimberly Brown 10 and Anuhea Wall nine to lift defending Division I state champion Konawaena to a 47-42 win over Mid-Pacific last night in the title game of the First Hawaiian Bank Moanalua Preseason Peek Tournament.

"It's great for the girls," said Konawaena head coach Bobbie Awa. "We have a lot of new faces and we're trying to break in the freshmen. They played well under pressure."

Konawaena, the only Neighbor Island team in the eight-team field, beat Kamehameha II and Moanalua en route to the championship game.

Mid-Pacific led 38-34 with under five minutes to play, but Wall broke away for a layup and Hopkins scored on the Wildcats' next possession to tie it at 38. Hopkins was fouled on the play and converted the free throw to put Konawaena ahead to stay with four minutes to play.

"We played better in every game, but we still have a lot to learn," Awa said.

Jenna Savusa led the Owls with 11 points.

Mid-Pacific led 18-16 at halftime.

Konawaena, the defending Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion, won its second state title in three years last season, a 59-47 win over Punahou. The Wildcats must replace forward Jazzmin Awa-Williams, an Advertiser All-State First-Team selection last season as a senior.

"We're working on it," Awa said. "The girls are still trying to feel out their roles."

Konawaena had just seven players available for the tournament.

The all-tournament team was composed of Hopkins, Jordan Kealoha (Mid-Pacific), Taeja Afalava (Kahuku), Qwineysha Wheeler (Moanalua), Natasha Helsham ('Aiea), Megan Lum (Kamehameha II), Olivia Phommachanh (Kaimuki) and Chelsea Oda (Punahou II).
