COFFEE-TABLE TOME

China is inescapable — as a fast-growing global power, it's part of our politics, food and aesthetics. Want to learn more about it? "China" (DK Publishing, $40) is a comprehensive — and accessible — compendium on the vast country, including a section of coffee-table-book landscape shots (deserts to lake-dotted forests), a history lesson with an illustrated timeline (learn your Tang from your Ming), inside looks at local life and images of art and architecture.

Will Smith | who was named one of the "Smartest People in Hollywood" in Entertainment Weekly
