The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said it settled a lawsuit that claimed hiring discrimination based on sex and age against Straub Clinic and Hospital and its parent company, Hawaii Pacific Health.
The agency said that the action was settled for $450,000 to provide remedial relief for some women and older applicants for security positions. The lawsuit was filed in 2006 and alleged Straub failed to hire applicants for security-officer positions because of their age (40 and up) and gender.
The EEOC said Straub also agreed to revise hiring policies.

The upgrade was based on strong historical financial performance and consistent demand, Moody's said in a news release.

The Palm Springs, Calif.-based company said the initial closing of its senior secured convertible note financing is part of a $20 million private placement for the acquisition of five dry-cleaning chains. The company was formed in 2005. Seventeen months ago, it merged with Young Laundry.
