University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer player Tehane Higa has been named to the Soccer Buzz All-Region third team.

Higa is just the third player in program history to earn all-region honors.

Higa joins Natasha Kai and Amanda Paterson as UH's all-region honorees. Kai, a striker, was a first-team pick by Soccer Buzz in 2003 and '04. Paterson was recognized as a third-team goalkeeper by NSCAA/Umbro in 1996.

Higa, a defender from 'Aiea, helped lead Hawai'i to its best season in history as UH won both the WAC regular-season and tournament titles, while qualifying for its first NCAA Tournament. Higa anchored a defense that posted a school-record 12 shutouts. She also scored six goals.

The 5-foot-6 junior co-captain became the first Rainbow Wahine to be named Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year as UH allowed only four goals in WAC play and recorded a league-leading five shutouts.

Higa, who played in six WAC matches, helped UH post a 0.59 goals against average, while scoring two of UH's 25 goals in league play. Hawai'i owned a WAC-best plus-3 margin of victory in conference matches.

TEAM HOSTS AUTOGRAPH SESSION TODAY AT UH

University of Hawai'i football players and coaches will hold a final autograph session before the Sugar Bowl from noon to 1 p.m. today at the UH soccer field.

Fans who want quarterback Colt Brennan's autograph will be limited to one item with his signature only. Items will not be personalized or include special notes. He also will not pose for photos in order to accommodate as many fans as possible with autographs, UH said in a press release.

The UH soccer field is located next to the football practice field in the school's lower campus.

The Warriors have been holding practice sessions that are closed to the public leading up to the game against Georgia on Jan. 1 at the Louisiana Superdome.
