UH's Smith WAC Player of Week

University of Hawai'i center Tanya Smith has been named the Western Athletic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 17 to 23. It is her second player of the week honor this season.
Smith, a senior from Sydney, Australia, recorded back-to-back double-doubles for the Rainbow Wahine, as they went 1-1 at the Women of Troy Classic in Los Angeles.
Smith started off the tournament with a season-high 21 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and added six assists and two steals in a 78-72 loss to Portland State.
Smith then had 13 points, 13 rebounds and three steals in a 71-53 victory over Grambling State.
On the week, she averaged 17.0 points, 12.5 rebounds and three assists in 35.5 minutes per game. Smith's two double-doubles give her seven on the season.
She was named to the Women of Troy Basketball Classic All-Tournament team, marking the third all-tournament team that she has been named to this season.
The Rainbow Wahine return to action Friday when they host the Bank of Hawai'i Invitational, beginning with a 7 p.m. matchup with UC Irvine.
