Honoka'a clinches state berth

Honoka'a defeated visiting Kea'au, 57-54, last night to win the Big Island Interscholastic Federation's regular season boys basketball championship in a winner-take-all playoff.
The two teams finished the regular season tied with 13-1 records. Honoka'a also clinched an automatic state tournament berth with the victory.
Honoka'a, Kea'au, Kamehameha-Hawai'i (12-2), Konawaena (11-3), Hilo (8-6) and Waiakea (8-6) will next play in a BIIF tournament to determine the overall league champion and second state tourney berth.

SEA WARRIORS SPLIT TWO
Hawai'i Pacific scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Arkansas-Monticello, 6-5, in the first game of a college softball doubleheader yesterday at Sea Warrior Field.
Arkansas-Monticello won the second game, 3-1.
In the first game, the Sea Warriors trailed 5-3 entering the final inning. HPU scored its three runs on a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch and throwing error.
Krystal Plunkett had two hits and Anuhea Young had two RBIs.
In the second game, Arkansas-Monticello scored one run in the second and two in the third. HPU's only run came in the sixth.
Hawai'i Pacific is 1-1. Arkansas-Monticello is 1-5.
VOLLEYBALL
UH MEN REMAIN NO. 9
The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team remained No. 9 in the CSTV/AVCA Division I-II Men's Top 15 Coaches Poll released yesterday.
Brigham Young is No. 1 and received 11 first-place votes, followed by UC Irvine (3) and Pepperdine (2). UCLA, which beat UH twice last week, is No. 8.
The Warriors (2-6) host No. 4 UC Santa Barbara (8-3) Thursday and Friday.
