Kahala Hotel workers ratify

Union workers at the Kahala Hotel & Resort ratified a new four-year contract over the weekend, union UNITE HERE Local 5 announced yesterday.
The contract, which covers about 435 employees, is similar to those already ratified at other hotels represented by Local 5, including the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa and the four Sheraton hotels on O'ahu. It includes increased medical and pension benefits, wage hikes and lighter housekeeping workloads, and double-time pay for tipped workers on sick leave.
Local 5 said 99 percent of the union employees who voted chose to ratify the new contract.
Local 5 has yet to reach contract agreements for employees at the Ala Moana Hotel, the Hale Koa Hotel, the Waikiki Resort Hotel, the Holiday Inn Waikiki Hotel and the Best Western the Plaza Hotel-Ho-nolulu International Airport.
GO! TOUCHES OFF NEW $29 FARE
Low-cost carrier go! announced a new round of $29 one-way fares for interisland travel through March 31.
Hawaiian Airlines and Aloha Airlines immediately matched the discounted fares.
go!, a unit of Phoenix-based Mesa Air Group, said tickets must be purchased by Feb. 25 and seats are limited to availability.
go! triggered an interisland fare war when it began flying in Hawai'i last June. It has periodically cut its fares, offering one-way tickets for as low as $19.
SERVCO SELLING EDUCATION UNIT
Servco Pacific Inc. is selling part of its education supplies division to concentrate on its core automotive, insurance and home products businesses.
The Custom Co., a provider of Hawai'i school uniforms, is buying Servco's Education Works store, which recently moved from Mapunapuna to Dole Cannery and sells classroom supplies, teaching materials, toys and other products for teachers and parents.
The purchase is expected to be completed in April. A price was not disclosed. Most Education Works employees will transfer to The Custom Co., Servco said.
Servco said it will keep the school furniture division of Education Works and will rename the operation Servco School and Office Furniture.
Servco's primary business is car dealerships.
