"Don Giovanni," the Mozart classic based on the legend of Don Juan, is the second production in the Hawaii Opera Theatre season.
What should opera veterans and newbies know?
When and how much? 8 p.m. today, 4 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Blaisdell Concert Hall. Remaining tickets for today's show are $58 to $120; Tuesday, $42 to $120. Sunday's show is sold out.
Who's who? Daniel Okulitch plays the title role. Henry G. Akina directs, Tyrone Paterson conducts.
The story: Don Giovanni, a womanizing nobleman, tries to have his way with the young Donna Anna. Her father challenges Giovanni to a duel and is killed. Giovanni, who continues his licentious ways, refuses to repent for murder or the abandonment of many women.
The music: Some of Mozart's most recognizable and thrilling scores come from "Don Giovanni." If you saw the film "Ama-deus," you already know.
