Senior third baseman Sasha Koki was a central part of St. Francis' quick climb to 2007 Interscholastic League of Honolulu title, and she capped off her career by being named ILH Player of the Year after a recent vote of league coaches.
Koki, batting third in the first part of the season and then leadoff down the stretch, hit .483 with an on-base percentage of .691. She had eight doubles, three triples and three home runs and played clutch defense at the hot corner.
"Two of the plays she made against Kamehameha — diving stops and then the throw to first for the third out — if she doesn't make those, we would have lost," St. Francis coach Mark Glushenko said. "She was a great player to coach, she led by example."
Sacred Hearts' Wade Okamura and Maryknoll's John Uekawa were named Co-Coaches of the Year. Sacred Hearts ended up as the ILH's Division II state tournament representative, and Maryknoll also qualified for its first state tournament berth.
