Senas talented beyond years

It's rare in any sport for a freshman to make a varsity roster, let alone earn a starting role at a key position.
It's rarer still for a ninth-grader to be named to a league's all-star first team, and almost unheard-of for one to be named Player of the Year.
But Mililani shortstop Courtney Senas pulled off all those rare feats after a recent vote of O'ahu Interscholastic Association Western Division coaches.
Senas was named West Player of the Year after batting .581 in the regular season, with an on-base percentage of .591, including six doubles, three triples and one home run while batting third in the lineup. She also had 10 RBIs, scored 16 runs and — together with freshman second baseman Kristi Oshiro — made stunning plays on defense that belied her youth and inexperience at the varsity level.
Three other Trojans joined Senas and Oshiro on the West's all-star first team: senior first baseman Tierra Cuba, sophomore outfielder Glenelle Nitta and junior pitcher Makani Duhaylonsod.
West champion Campbell placed four on the first team: sophomore third baseman Kai Clark, senior outfielder Shelei Murray-Thornton, junior catcher Anuhea Yamaguchi and senior utility player Sam Palipti.
Kapolei junior outfielder Ka'ili Smith rounds out the first team.
Campbell's David Perreira was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Sabers (12-0) to the division crown.
