Hoana Medical raises $20.9M

Honolulu-based Hoana Medical Inc. said it has raised $20.9 million in its latest round of financing.

The medical device company has developed technology that monitors physiological conditions without the need for leads, electrodes or cuffs.

To date, Hoana has raised nearly $40 million in private equity along with $12 million in federal money for clinical evaluation and testing.

Hoana is now accepting commercial customer orders for its LG1 Intelligent Medical Vigilance System.


ORGANIC MAC NUT CANDY BEING SOLD

Hawaiian Host Inc. has launched a new line of organic macadamia nut candy. Hawaiian Host Pure Aloha Organics macadamia nuts are grown using farming techniques that are free of chemicals, the company said.

The new line will be launched nationally at the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade's Fancy Food Show in San Francisco later this month.

In Hawai'i, Don Quijote already is selling the new candies.


JOB VACANCY ADS ONLINE RISE 12%

The number of job vacancies advertised online in Hawai'i rose about 12 percent during December compared with a year earlier, according to a report by the Conference Board, a New York-based business and research group.

The increase compared to a 17 percent climb in online help-wanted ads nationally, the group said. The number of unduplicated ads in Hawai'i totaled 13,600 in December and compared with 12,200 a year prior.

The report also found the number of ads for Honolulu job vacancies fell during the month by almost 26 percent compared to a year previous. The Conference Board said there were 6,600 Honolulu online job vacancies posted compared with 8,900 in December 2005.
