A 19-year-old Kapalama man free on bail after being charged Dec. 6 on five counts of auto theft and first-degree burglary was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly breaking into a car, driving a stolen vehicle and assaulting a police officer.
Frank E. Silva Jr. was given a chance in April 2006 by a Circuit Court judge to clear his record by staying out of trouble for five years, completing 100 hours of community service and paying $3,560 restitution.
Silva, however, was in trouble last month for allegedly stealing cars over a nine-day period starting Nov. 24. The burglary count and one of the auto-theft counts stemmed from the alleged theft of car keys and a car from an 'Alewa Heights home on Nov. 27 while fleeing from police.
Silva was arrested Wednesday on the 1600 block of Stillman Lane at 9:20 p.m. in a stolen car that had fled the scene of a reported auto break-in about two hours earlier. Silva was booked for auto theft, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle and first-degree assault on a police officer.
Charges are pending. At the time of his most recent arrest, Silva was free on $90,000 bail for the Dec. 6 charges.
