TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"The Knights of Prosperity," 8 p.m., ABC. In last week's season-opener, this bumbling bunch of first-time crooks launched a scheme to break into Mick Jagger's apartment. Now comes the first hitch: They need Jagger's security code. It's held by one woman, played by Reiko Aylesworth, formerly of "24." Their plan is to seduce her — something that is not in the skill set of any of these guys. So they must give an instant makeover to their intern Louis Plunk. He doesn't take naturally to being a ladies' man. The result is erratic, but has funny moments.

"Armed & Famous" debut, 7 p.m., CBS. This reality show has five celebrities training with the police in Muncie, Ind., and then going on patrol with them. One person should know the moves; Erik Estrada spent six years playing a TV cop. The others? There's Jack Osbourne, Ozzy's kid; and LaToya Jackson, Michael's sister. There's Trish Stratus, a wrestler, and Jason "Wee Man" Acuna, a 4-foot-7 daredevil from the "Jackass" TV series and movies.

OF NOTE

"Friday Night Lights," 7 p.m., NBC. In this episode the family of Jason, the paralyzed quarterback, is suing Coach Taylor. Meanwhile, Matt, the fill-in quarterback, finds that it's a mixed blessing to have his father back from Iraq.

"According to Jim," 7 and 7:30 p.m., ABC. In the first episode, Jim must decide whether to have an expensive operation for the family's guinea pig. In the second, plans for his 15th wedding anniversary run into complications — including the fact that his sister-in-law is going into labor.

"Criminal Minds," 8 p.m., CBS. A one-on-one session in a diner has Gideon desperately trying to learn where a serial killer has hidden his hostage.

"Myths and Legends," 8 p.m., TV Land. This fun series attacks some show-business rumors that just won't quit. Most interesting tonight is the belief that a boy's ghost is peering into a window in the movie "Three Men and a Baby." The show deflates that and offers a reasonable alternative.

"In Case of Emergency," 8:30 p.m., ABC. This episode lacks the manic energy of last week's debut but it's still kind of fun. The four former classmates realize they've underachieved by a long stretch; now they start rebuilding their lives. The most difficult step involves helping Keli (Kelly Hu) move away from her intimidating boyfriend.

"China From the Inside: Power and the People," 9 p.m., PBS. This opener of a four-part documentary series is relatively distant and uninvolving. It looks at the approach of Chinese bureaucrats, to keep control of their billion-plus people. Bureaucrats don't make compelling television but there are better hours ahead.

"Medium," 9 p.m., NBC. Allison's visions, of a boy trapped in a well, seem unrelated to the case she's working on.

"CSI: NY," 9 p.m., CBS. We visit the seamy underside of shopping-cart races. Really.
