INA OZEAL GREEN BESS, 95, of Manoa, died Jan. 12, 2007. Born in Eva, Ala. Widow of Professor Henry Bess; homemaker, preschool teacher and active contributor to the life of the University of Hawai'i-Manoa, its faculty and students. Survived by sons, H. David and Stephen; four granddaughters; four great-granddaughters. Private celebration of life at her Manoa home. LEANN CRAGUN, 60, died Jan. 10, 2007. Born in Ogden, Utah. An activist in the feminist movement in Hawai'i in the 1970s; challenged a Hawai'i law that required a woman to take her husband's last name when she married, leading to a change in the law to allow Island married women to retain their birth names. Survived by husband, Paul Phillips; two brothers and two sisters. Service held in Washington, D.C.

ETHEL TOYOKO GOYA HAIDA, 71, of Kane'ohe, died Jan. 17, 2007. Born in Waipahu. Retired school teacher. Survived by husband, Kenneth; daughter, Sherron; brother, Takemi Goya; sisters, Margaret Higa, Doris Yamashige, Carole Holokahi, Grace Goya and Jeannette Johnson-Capps.
