Suspect in slaying faces drug charge

A 32-year-old man who was arrested in connection with a McCully death has been charged on drug offenses and outstanding warrants. But no charges have been filed — pending further investigation — in the strangulation death of 58-year-old Ted Arifuku, whose body was found Jan. 15 in his apartment.
The man was being held in lieu of $30,000 for promotion of dangerous drug and possession of drug paraphernalia, in addition to warrants totalling $1,050.
HEARING SET FOR MAN IN SHOOTING
A preliminary hearing is scheduled Tuesday at District Court for a 25-year-old man charged Thursday with shooting and robbing cab driver Yu Kyo Kim in the parking lot of a Pearlridge bank at 98-1071 Moanalua Road last July.
Gregory Maika Kaahanui of Kahalu'u is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail for second-degree counts of attempted murder and robbery, and firearm offenses.
According to police, Kaahanui was identified as a suspect through a DNA match of a bloodstain on a jacket collar and ski cap recovered in the cab and DNA sample he voluntarily provided following his arrest for an unrelated offense last year.
CARJACK SUSPECT GOING TO COURT
A man awaiting trial for robbery and auto theft in connection with the Jan. 18, 2005, hijacking of a tour van at Kahe Point Beach Park has an appearance Monday at Circuit Court. Ricky Kenui is accused of driving off in a Dolphin Excursions van with four tourists inside.
SEX ASSAULTS ON JUVENILE ALLEGED
A 42-year-old man was charged Friday with multiple felony counts of first- and second-degree sex assault stemming from alleged attacks on a juvenile from 2003-2006. Bail for Craig K.H. Wong is $50,000.
