TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"American Masters: Les Paul: Chasing Sound," 9 p.m., PBS. At 92, Les Paul has encompassed much of modern music history. He played with the old greats — Louis Armstrong and Art Tatum and Django Reinhardt and more. And nowadays, rock stars — Keith Richards and Jeff Beck and Steve Miller and such — cherish his impact. As a musician, they say, he's unmatched. He can play the guitar brilliantly; he still has a nightclub gig every Monday in New York. And as an inventor and dabbler he did it all. He helped develop the electric guitar; he created the notion of overdubbing sound upon sound. With then-wife Mary Ford, he made music that was both artistic and melodic.

"Brooklyn Dodgers: The Ghosts of Flatbush," 5 p.m., HBO. Brooklyn once seemed like a portrait of America — a hardy, blue-collar blend of immigrant families. The Yankees had the sheen and the class; the Dodgers had the personality. The peak moment began in 1947 when the Dodgers broke the race barrier with Jackie Robinson. The low point came a decade later when the team was suddenly moved to Los Angeles. This story is richly told by the players — Duke Snider, Carl Erskine, Clem Labine and more — and the passionate fans.

OF NOTE

"King of Queens," 7 and 7:30 p.m., CBS. In the first rerun, Carrie fumes that Deacon and Kelly have a new vacation home while often getting Doug and Carrie to pay for things. In the second, Doug becomes a zealous vegetarian.

"So You Think You Can Dance," 7 p.m., Fox. After a one-week break, there are 14 terrific dancers left. The show trims back to 90 minutes now to make room for a new game show.

"American Inventor," 8 p.m., ABC. Yes, there's a reality overload on Wednesdays. Tonight, we see auditions in Houston and Tampa.

"Traveler," 9 p.m., ABC. Jay finally gets back together with his girlfriend Kim. Meanwhile, Tyler learns that the FBI is definitely in on the plot.

"Last Comic Standing," 9 p.m., NBC. Earlier, this fun show was foolishly plunked face-to-face with "So You Think You Can Dance." Now it has been moved to 9 p.m., where it's safe from Fox. Tonight's auditions are in Tempe, Ariz.; expect some solid stand-up comics, plus some clunkers.
