Veteran Honolulu TV journalist WALLY ZIMMERMANN has added the word "senior" to his title of vice president of client services at Bright Light Marketing Group. Before joining Bright Light in 2006, the 35-year communications veteran worked as executive producer of "Hawai'i's Morning News" at KHON-TV; news director for both KHON-TV and KITV 4, and director of communications for the Chamber of Commerce of Hawai'i. He has also held positions at ABC News and NBC News. His duties as senior vice president include creating a strategic growth plan for the agency, developing on-line resources and assisting with clients' public relations, marketing and event coordination needs. The Bright Light full-service public relations and marketing firm was founded in 1990 as Lynette Lo Tom Communications Inc.
Small-business health-care insurance provider, HMAA (Hawai'i Management Alliance Association), has named RODNEY J. PARK senior vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer. The 30-year local business executive, manager and CPA, for the past five years was a principal with international strategic consulting firm, LECG LLC, Honolulu. He is a past controller of Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate (KSBE); president of KSBE unit, P&C Insurance Co., and an audit manager at Alexander Grant & Co.
Local entertainer, kumu hula and Hawaiiana resource, MANU BOYD, has been named cultural director for Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, as the three-block Waikiki shopping landmark strives to improve its "Hawaiian sense of place" in a major multi-million dollar renovation. Boyd, most recently public information director for the state Office of Hawaiian Affairs, is manaleo (native Hawaiian speaker); an award-winning musician with musical group, Ho'okena, and kumu hula with the Kane'ohe-based Halau O Ke 'A'ali'i Ku Makani. Renovations on the six-acre, four-level Waikiki shopping center mix of 110 retailers, dining and entertainment venues, are slated for the first quarter of next year.
Kober Hanssen Mitchell Architects (KHMA) has announced Director of Interior Architecture Laurie Kaneshiro has been named a principal with the architecture and interior architecture firm. Among projects of the nearly 30-year veteran of interior design are Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center and the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center. She is on the board of directors of the American Society of Interior Designers.
LARRY C. SMITH, a former supervisory highway engineer with the U.S. Department of Transportation, has joined SSFM International as senior manager for transportation related projects in Hawai'i and the Pacific region. He is a 35-year veteran of management, transportation, and engineering, with experience on projects in Virginia, Washington, D.C., Colorado and Wisconsin. He also administered the Federal Lands Highway Program portions of national transportation legislation.
Tiki's Grill and Bar on the second floor of the ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel on Kalakaua Avenue, has announced two appointments:
KAEO GOUVEIA, who signed on as floor manager with the restaurant's opening in fall, 2002, has been promoted from assistant general manager to general manager. He holds a master of business administration degree, with an emphasis on marketing. He is a past two-time Defensive Player of the Year for the University of San Diego football team.
KAPOLANIALAIMAKA "KAPO" KEALOHA, a former lead chef at luxury hotels in California, Arizona and Wyoming, has joined Tiki's beachfront eatery as new executive chef. His past experience includes positions from lead garde manger, to line supervisor, to banquet chef in banquet and kitchen operations at such locations as the Four Seasons Hotel in Silicon Valley in California and Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole, Wyo. One of his first duties in the new job at Tiki's was to launch the restaurant's new breakfast buffet service.
