On a day when Michelle Wie struggled to be patient with her play, Natalie Gulbis' patience finally paid off.
Gulbis, winless through five-plus seasons on the LPGA Tour, broke through yesterday — sinking a birdie putt on the first playoff hole to beat Jeong Jang of South Korea in the Evian Masters at Evian-Les-Bains, France.
Gulbis (70) and Jang (72) finished the fourth round tied at 4-under 284.
"What does it mean? How long do you have?" Gulbis said. "Obviously, it was meant to be for me."
Wie, who pulled her opening shot out of bounds to start with a double-bogey 6, shot 76 to finish tied for 69th at 16-over 304.
"I kept my head together," said Wie, who recovered with a steady back nine of level-par 36. "I just have to keep the ball in play and use my head more and be patient with myself."
