Hawai'i' designated hitter Vinnie Catricala was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America team as selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Catricala batted .318 with two home runs, six doubles, one triple and 25 RBIs. He was a second-team all-Western Athletic Conference selection.

There were six other designated hitters named to the freshmen team. Nevada first baseman Shaun Kort and San Jose State shortstop Kyle Bellows were the only other players from the WAC named to the team. Kort was the WAC's Freshman of the Year.

Catricala is the eighth UH player to earn Freshman All-America honors and the fourth during UH coach Mike Trapasso's tenure. Pitcher Matt Daly was named to last year's team.
