Loretta Ables Sayre just might be a "somebody" after all. She has been called back to audition in New York this summer in her bid for the role of Bloody Mary in a February 2008 revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein's "South Pacific."
"No one else is getting a callback from Hawai'i," said Ables Sayre. "I cried like a baby in disbelief."
Her audition song was "Bali Hai."
Ables Sayre is set to reprise the role of Pua "Ma" Lusa in the Lee Cataluna-Keola Beamer musical, "You Somebody," starting July 13 at Diamond Head Theatre. "They told me to clear my calendar once 'Somebody' closes," said Ables Sayre, who was anticipating a contract in the mail for perusal.
She is eager to commit to a six-month stint in The Big Apple, at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center, but wondered, "Is New York ready for a tita?"
