TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"Paul Simon: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song," 9:30 p.m., PBS. If future civilizations watch this, they'll think Paul Simon wrote dirges. Many of his classics are given a sleepy pace. Fortunately, the songs and the singers — James Taylor, Alison Krauss, Lyle Lovett — are good enough to survive. And some people do boost the tempo. Let's be thankful for Yolanda Adams and other gospel people, plus Buckwheat Zydeco and Marc Anthony. The show also includes humor, classic clips, Stevie Wonder, Simon himself — and yes, Art Garfunkel.
"Rescue Me," 7 p.m., FX. This terrific show keeps juggling comedy and tragedy. Now that reaches new extremes. There are moments that are downright goofy. And, near the end, there's a horrific moment in the opposite direction. It adds up to an amazing hour.
OF NOTE
"Spider-Man 2" (2004), 4 p.m., FX. Tobey Maguire again links with director Sam Raimi and co-star Kirsten Dunst for a mixture of action and angst.
"So You Think You Can Dance," 7 p.m., Fox. There are 16 extremely talented dancers left in the competition.
"King of Queens," 7 and 7:30 p.m., CBS. In the first rerun, Doug's father-in-law wants money for braces. In the second, the family isn't invited to a block party; Doug decides to boost his image by getting a dog.
"Last Comic Standing," 8 p.m., NBC. Auditions are in London and Minneapolis.
"Traveler," 9 p.m., ABC. Trying to learn more about the guy who framed them, Tyler and Jay follow the money. They're learning who paid whom. Meanwhile, an FBI person may be in on the scheme.
"CSI:NY," 9 p.m., CBS. Nelly Furtado plays a shoplifter who takes specific orders in this rerun.
