TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Burn Notice" debut, 10 p.m., USA Network. Michael Weston (Jeffrey Donovan) has lots of handy knowledge, which he shares in the narration. He knows how to break and enter, kill and maim, escape and run. Then, midmission, the CIA cuts him off. It won't acknowledge he exists; he ends up broken in Miami with iffy friends (Bruce Campbell and Gabrielle Anwar) and a hypochondriac mother (Sharon Gless). That's the start of the summer's best surprise. "Burn Notice" has wit, action, mystery and gorgeous settings. Weston doesn't know who burned his career. While trying to find out, he uses his skill to do good and make money.

"Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," 9 p.m., NBC. Here's the last new episode of a great series. Aaron Sorkin created deep characters. Tonight, the crises end and Matt and Harriet define their relationship.

OF NOTE

"The Starter Wife," 6 p.m., USA Network. This six-hour miniseries started with Molly (Debra Messing) being dumped by her rich husband. In this finale, she can choose between a couple of guys and the single life she's getting the hang of.

"Ugly Betty," 7 p.m., ABC. In a so-so episode, Betty loses a mock-up that includes unflattering photos of a star.

"My Name is Earl," 7 p.m., NBC. Earl was once so mean that an exchange student fled back to France. In this rerun, he flies him back.

"Hey Paula" debut, 7 and 7:30 p.m., Bravo. Paula Abdul does nothing to dispel the view that she's ditzy. This reality show sees her struggling through life, despite help from assistants. She offers an inexplicable opinion that the world is mean to her, but she's tough.

"The Office," 7:30 p.m., NBC. In the first rerun, Jim and Pam organize goofy "office Olympics." In the second, Jim admits to Michael how he feels about Pam. In the third, he's afraid Michael will talk; he must pal around with him, and they wind up at a Hooter's together.

"Grey's Anatomy," 8 p.m., ABC. In a rerun, rumors spread that the chief is retiring.

"So You Think You Can Dance," 8 p.m., Fox. The field is trimmed to 14.

Political forum, 9 p.m., PBS. Tavis Smiley hosts Democratic presidential candidates at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

"Men in Trees," 9 p.m., ABC. Here's a rerun of the excellent pilot film, with a big-city relationships expert (Anne Heche) finding herself alone in small-town Alaska.
