PILA'A
Extensions in Pflueger case

Advertiser Staff

The U.S. Department of Justice, the Environmental Protection Agency, the state and two Kaua'i citizen groups have reached an agreement with Jimmy Pflueger on extended deadlines for Pflueger to restore areas at Pila'a where he was cited for Clean Water Act violations. Some restoration has been done, and the stipulation allows other work to be completed between 2008 and 2012.

The Justice Department plans to post the details soon at: www.usdoj.gov/enrd/Consent_Decrees.html. There is a 30-day public comment period.

The case results from 1997 grading activities done without permits, which let muddy water flow to the sea.
