Oscar Kightley, Samoan actor, playwright, screenwriter and co-author and star of the 2006 film, "Samoan Wedding," will screen the movie and speak at a seminar next week at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa.

Kightley will be in residency at the Center for Pacific Island Studies as a visiting artist.

His appearances are open to the public:

  • A master class on screenwriting and acting, targeting students with the UHM Academy of Creative Media, from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Shidler College of Business, Room C102.

  • "Samoan Wedding" screening, 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the UH Architecture Auditorium, room 205. A question-and-answer session follows.

  • A seminar on his creative work, 3 p.m. Thursday, at Burns Hall 3121/3125.

Kightley, who was born in Samoa, created a box-office sensation in New Zealand with "Samoan Wedding." The film aired at the Hawaii International Film Festival last year and drew a stream of viewers for weeks at additional screenings in the Islands. Kightley is also a member of the Aotearoa/New Zealand comedy group the Naked Samoans and co-creator of the animated TV series, "bro'Town."
