Warriors sweep Tritons

Lauri Hakala had 13 kills and no errors to lead No. 13 Hawai'i in a 30-26, 30-18, 30-15 sweep of UC San Diego in La Jolla, Calif. yesterday.
The Warriors hit .479 and held the Tritons to a .082 hitting percentage in improving to 10-16 overall, 6-11 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. UCSD fell to 5-18, 2-15.
Hakala, a senior outside hitter, hit. 765 with five digs, six block assists and an ace.
The Warriors dominated at the net, outblocking UCSD, 17-1. Dio Dante had 11 block assists to go with five kills and .444 hitting percentage.
The teams were tied at 24 in Game 1, but Hawai'i was aided by three Triton hitting errors en route to a 28-25. Ernie Vidinha put away the next point and UCSD's Frank Fritsch had a service error on the second game point to give the Warriors the game.
Hawai'i dominated in Game 2, committing just two errors and hitting .636.
The Warriors were even better in Game 3, making just one error, while the Tritons hit negative-.062.
Punahou graduate Will Ehrman led the Tritons with 10 kills.
Hawai'i is in 10th place in the 12-team MPSF. The top eight teams qualify for the conference tournament, beginning April 18.
The teams meet again today and the match will be broadcast on ESPN 1420, beginning at 4:45 p.m.
