Lei Day celebrations kick off in Waikiki

The 80th annual Lei Day Celebration takes place at Kapi'olani Park from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today featuring performances by the Royal Hawaiian Band, Kapena, the Makaha Sons and Kawao, as well as hula halau.

The investiture ceremony for the 2007 Lei Queen and Court will also take place

Later, at 7:30 p.m., The Brothers Cazimero 30th Anniversary May Day concert takes place at the Waikiki Shell. The early celebrations are free. The Caz concert tickets range from $20 to $45.

Other May Day celebrations:

  • Floral displays, hula and 'ukulele lessons start at 10 a.m. at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach hotel.

  • A Village May Day Celebration, with crafters, Hawaiian art, Tahitian clothing, jewelry and more; 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa, hotel main lobby.
