Till now, Raiatea Helm, the award-winning Island singer, has lived rock music primarily through her performing dad, Zachary Helm, who used to play it while she was growing up.

But at the second Diamond Head Crater Festival on May 19 inside the famous Waikiki landmark, Helm, 22, tackles a few upbeat titles as the featured female voice of Mick Fleetwood's Island Rumours Band, which will make its world premiere. Fleetwood has put an Island spin on his iconic Fleetwood Mac sound, and Helm gets to dust off signature Stevie Nicks songs.

She'll address her new role in a media preview today at The Royal Hawaiian hotel's Monarch Room. In advance of that event, which includes a short performance by the Island Rumours Band, Helm shared some insights about the group and this new musical adventure:

ON HER NEW ROLE

"I am having so much fun, broadening my horizons; it helps to have the Barefoot Natives (Willie K, Eric Gilliom) aboard, too. I get to play my 'ukulele, the tambourine, some other stuff, and even sing 'O Tahiti' and 'Tomi Tomi."

ON SINGING STEVIE

"I'm familiar with Fleetwood Mac's music, which is from my dad's era, since I listened to him perform. I'm a big Stevie fan; she is amazing. I sing 'Dreams,' 'Rhiannon,' 'Don't Stop,' and Eric and I duet on 'Songbird.' Mick took us to see and hear her at a rehearsal; it was so cool."

ON FLEETWOOD

"He loves Hawaiian music; we've had practices at his Maui house. The man's a legend. Just to meet the guy would have been great."

ON MAINTAINING HER OWN SOUND

"I get to sing 'Alika' (with the band). What can I say; I'm a Moloka'i girl, surrounded by all this positive energy. I just finished a new album ("Hawaiian Blossom"), which comes out sometime this summer."
