Honoka'a's Maekawa makes BIIF history

Honoka'a High School's Sean Maekawa shot a 2-under-par 70 to win his fourth Big Island Interscholastic Federation golf title Tuesday at The Club at Hokuli'a.
Maekawa is believed to be the first BIIF golfer to win four individual titles.
Maekawa, who finished with a 216, entered Tuesday's third and final round of the BIIF Championships tied for first with Hawai'i Prep's Max Bonk. But Bonk shot a 2-over 74 to finish tied for second with Waiakea's Henry Park at 220.
MARYKNOLL TO HONOR WALLY YONAMINE
Wally Yonamine will be honored by Maryknoll School as its Charles A. Kekumano Award recipient.
Yonamine, a former baseball pro from Maui who is in the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame, is being recognized for his commitment to community service. His Wally Yonamine Foundation provides scholarships for high school students and sponsors the state baseball tournament.
"His accomplishments and commitment to this community reflect the same values we embrace through our school motto, Noblesse Oblige (to whom much is given, much is expected)," Maryknoll president Michael Baker said in a press release.
Yonamine and Maryknoll junior Cheri Amas, this year's Kekumano Scholar, will be honored on May 27 at a scholarship dinner at the Sheraton Waikiki.
Amas is a member of the Maryknoll cheer squad, National Honor Society, campus ministry and Drill Team Hawai'i.
KAMEHAMEHA FITNESS EVENT TOMORROW
About 900 high school students will compete tomorrow in the annual Kamehameha Schools fitness event at Ala Moana Park.
Each member of the freshman class will either do a 10-kilometer (6.2 miles) run or a 3K swim.
The entire sophomore class does a biathlon event, running approximately four miles and swimming about 3,000 meters.
