One of today's biggest events is the celebration of the life of Don Ho, the legendary entertainer who died April 14. The public is invited, and organizers expect a huge crowd of residents and visitors.
Ho's ashes will be scattered off Waikiki, with canoes launching in front of The Royal Hawaiian hotel, at 5:30 p.m. From 6 to 9 p.m. at Queen's Surf Beach, a number of performers — including Ho's daughter Hoku Ho, and veteran entertainers Nina Keali'iwahamana, Melveen Leed, Willie K, The Brothers Cazimero, the Society of Seven Las Vegas, Marlene Sai, Iva Kinimaka, Jimmy Borges and Sam Kapu Jr. — will pay tribute to Mr. Waikiki.
A video of the scattering of ashes will be shown on the 30-foot screen used for Sunset on the Beach events.
