Uyehara back to defend Hickam Invitational crown

Craig Uyehara will defend his title and U.S. Public Links champion Casey Watabu will be one of many trying to take it away this weekend in the Hickam Invitational at Mamala Bay.
Championship flight also includes Christian Akau, Lorens Chan, former winner Mark Chun and Ryan Perez. Play begins at 6:40 a.m. tomorrow. The field will be cut after the second round.
LONG DRIVE AT OLOMANA
Local qualifying for the 2007 RE/MAX World Long Drive event will be at Olomana Golf Links. There are three qualifying Saturdays — May 19, June 16 and July 21. Each starts at 4 p.m.
Cost is $40 for six golf balls for Open and Senior Divisions. Super Senior, Grand Champion and Women's Divisions cost $30.
The $500,000 international final is Oct. 22 to 27 at Palms Golf Club in Mesquite, Nev. For more information, call John Harris (951-3200) or Jonathan Kono (383-2228).

Cyd Okino, an eighth-grader at Kaimuki Middle School, shot 7-over-par 79 in the Monday qualifier for the 2006 Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill in Virginia. Okino, 13, was given a qualifying exemption. LPGA members Maggie Will (68) and Dina Ammaccapane (69) won the qualifier.
Makalei Golf Club will host a "Golf Day" Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Pros Kevin Ginoza, Kyle Herzberg and Mark Morrison will assist golfers with their game. In addition to instruction, there will be a straightest tee shot contest and a putting contest.
Hapuna Golf Course will have a Demo Day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Representatives from Ping, Callaway, Titleist, Taylor Made, Nike, Cobra and more will have their latest equipment to try at the driving range. Hapuna is also offering a $50 rate for a round beginning at noon. Call 880-3000 for information.
