A 12-inch water main break yesterday afternoon forced the closure of three eastbound lanes of Kapi'olani Boulevard shortly before 4 p.m.

The closure was between Ward Avenue and Kamake'e Street.

A Board of Water Supply troubleshooter was on scene and repair work was expected to last into this morning.

The main break, on the makai side of Blaisdell Center, affected about five businesses in the area.

The main was installed in 1935. It was scheduled to be replaced sometime next year.

MAN CHARGED IN ILLEGAL BURNING

A 41-year-old man was charged Sunday with illegal burning of greenery on property near the 600 block of Magellan Avenue in Punchbowl.

Eric Milo was charged with misdemeanor fourth-degree arson. His bail is $500. Milo, however, also had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants totaling $5,150.

Milo was arrested at 2:55 p.m.

ATTACK WITH BAT LEADS TO ARREST

A 50-year-old man was arrested Sunday night after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend with a baseball bat in Waikiki.

The man and his girlfriend, 42, reportedly got into an argument in his apartment. During the argument, the man reportedly grabbed a wooden baseball bat and threatened the woman. He then reportedly broke the bat into two pieces over a table and stabbed the woman twice with a broken jagged piece, according to a police report.

The woman suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Responding patrol officers arrested the man on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening and second-degree assault.

HO-HENRY DEATH REPORT POSTPONED

The Honolulu medical examiner's office yesterday deferred its findings on cause and manner of death on Dayna Ho-Henry, the 52-year-old daughter of late entertainer Don Ho.

Ho-Henry was found dead Friday at a Waialua home.

Police have classified the case as an unattended death pending autopsy results. No foul play is suspected.

Don Ho died April 14 of heart failure at the age of 76. His ashes were scattered in waters off Waikiki on May 5.

'DOG' CHAPMAN ASSOCIATE DIES

Russell Chapman, a member of Duane "Dog" Chapman's bounty hunter posse for more than 22 years, died Sunday at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, Miss., due to complications with liver and kidney failure.

Russell Chapman, 44, is not related to Duane and Beth Chapman but is considered family by them, according to Dog Chapman's spokeswoman, Mona K. Wood of Ikaika Communications.

SCHOOL STREET GETS NEW SIGNAL

New pedestrian traffic signals on North School Street in Lanakila fronting St. Theresa's School begin operating at 9 a.m. today.

Because the signal is located at a mid-block crosswalk, pedestrians who wish to cross must press the button to trigger the walk signal.

"This is part of our effort to improve pedestrian safety Islandwide," Mayor Mufi Hannemann said. "We can't do it alone, of course, and we urge motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution on the road at all times."
