Veteran reggae star Don Carlos, right, is bringing his rhythms to the School's Out Reggae Jam, just in time to celebrate the beginning of summer. In his early years, Carlos shared the stage with Bob Marley and the Wailers and Peter Tosh, to name a few; he has more 20 albums to his credit. Also on the bill: Ooklah the Moc, Iration, and Paula Fuga with Dubkonscious.

FESTIVAL: JUNE 2
The usually flamboyant Honolulu Gay Pride 2007 Festival and Parade focuses on a sense of community with this year's theme, "I Belong." The festival will include family-style entertainment on two stages, the Gay Idol final, poetry slam, The Drag King Contest, workshops, a children's area, DJs, vendors and food booths. The parade, right, features the Aloha Gay Pride Marching Band and floats as it marches from Magic Island and along Kalakaua Avenue toward to Kapi'olani Park.

COMEDY: JUNE 8
Charlie Murphy, a breakout star from the defunct but hilarious "Chappelle's Show," is back to bring the laugh tracks from the TV to the stage. The older brother of actor-comedian Eddie Murphy, Charlie also is a successful Hollywood screenwriter and actor and is best known for his "Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories" sketches that recount his adventures as a former bodyguard for his brother. Recently Murphy co-wrote "Norbit," which starred brother Eddie. Charlie was last here in July 2005.

Texas blues/rocker Johnny Winter performs on four islands on his Hawai'i Tour '07, and a portion of the proceeds benefits arts education in the schools. Winter has been known for his fresh take on classic blues for more than 30 years; his 2006 Grammy-nominated "I'm a Bluesman" disc has only added to his Texas-sized reputation. The Girlas and Bluzilla will be the opening acts on O'ahu.

Ron Bright, the celebrated director and mentor to a number of Broadway and community-theater actors, will be honored at "Spotlight on the Arts," a presentation of much song and dance. The benefit for Paliku Theatre will assemble a roster of Bright's former students, including Jade Stice, Jodi Leong, John Bryan, Tricia Marciel, Sonya Mendez, Michael Bright, Johnson Enos, Christopher Lowe and others.

The Florida-based Christian metalcore/hardcore/post-hardcore band Underoath is likely to shake things up in a very loud way as it tours in support of "Define the Great Line," its third release. When "Great Line" was released in June 2006, it landed on the No. 2 spot on the Billboard charts, the highest debut for a Christian album since 1997. Opening artist is Pennylane.

Shake those salsa sensibilities at the 7th annual Puerto Rican Cultural and Salsa Festival, also known as "Salsathon," celebrating El Dia de San Juan with the live beats of Son Caribe, Johnny Polanco, Orquestra La Verdad, DJ Rodney Perez, DJ Michelle. Other attractions include dance workshops, World Salsa Dance Championships qualifications, performances, novelties, inflatables, food and more. Korean pop recording star/actor/dancer Rain, right, brings his superstar power to Aloha Stadium in a much anticipated concert that was moved up from July 3 to June 15. Rain's smooth moves and perfect abs attract attention, but his climb to fame began with his appearance in "Full House," a Korean drama in 2004. In April 2006, Rain was one of Time magazine's "100 Most Influential People Who Shape Our World" in an online poll. He also made it on People magazine's 2007 list of the Most Beautiful People in the world.
