Fixes ahead for 65 crosswalks

Advertiser Staff

The city has identified more than 65 crosswalks in Waikiki that need to be upgraded to international-style crosswalks or repainted to improve pedestrian safety.

Work on improving these crosswalks is expected start by summer, said Richard Torres, deputy director of the Department of Transportation Services.

For the past two months, the city has been assessing crosswalks and signage in Kalihi, downtown and Waikiki. The plan is to eventually assess intersections islandwide, Torres said.

To report a crosswalk that needs upgrades on a city street, call the city Department of Facility Maintenance at 692-5054.
