Advertiser Staff

Lili'uokalani Elementary School last week celebrated its 95th anniversary.

House Speaker Calvin Say and Rep. Barbara Marumoto, R-19th (Wai'alae Iki, Kalani Valley, Kahala), presented a birthday card to the school from Gov. Linda Lingle and a proclamation from the state House of Representatives. Sen. Les Ihara, D-9th (Kapahulu, Kaimuki, Palolo), gave the school a proclamation from the state Senate.

Former teachers and administrators also attended the Friday event, which featured performances by students and the presentation of the school's royal court.

The school was dedicated by the last reigning queen of Hawai'i on April 12, 1912.
