As the endless recycling of past fashion fads continues, headbands are the hottest hair accessory this season (who can forget Brigitte Bardot's teased tresses held back with a simple black band?). It's an easy trend to embrace during Hawai'i's beach-culture summers.

Of course, headbands are ideal for second-day hair, but they're also a simple solution for an after-beach 'do. And, handled properly, the right headband can offer an instant face-lift.

Although a headband appears the least-complicated of accessories, it's easy to get it wrong. "It can be a little scary, because it opens up your face to the world," says Katsumi Kasai, an award-winning hair stylist who was in town recently for an event at Neiman Marcus. We asked Kasai to style Fashion Forum member Chanel Shiraishi with different headband looks.
