The city has begun working on the Hawai'i Kai dog park at the corner of Keahole Street and Kalaniana'ole Highway.
The joint private-public partnership requires the city to clear the land, install irrigation lines and fencing. The nonprofit Hui 'ilio Hawai'i, which has been trying to get the park built for the past three years, will provide the fence material, benches and some landscaping.
The partnership has said it intends to open the dog park by mid-spring.
