Hau'ula bridge to start 2-way traffic
Advertiser Staff
The new Kokololio Bridge on Kamehameha Highway in Hau'ula will be opened to two-way traffic beginning at 3 p.m. today, the state Department of Transportation announced. Traffic is currently being contraflowed.
Work began in June 2006 on the $5.8 million bridge, built to replace a bridge that dated back to 1932. The old bridge had no shoulder lanes, walkways or bicycle lanes, and was not built to handle heavy vehicles.
The new bridge has 8-foot-wide shoulders, a protected bike/pedestrian lane on the mauka side and meets earthquake standards.
