Actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, a Hawai'i resident who has starred in numerous big-screen film productions, was charged last night with domestic violence after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at their Diamond Head home, police said.

Tagawa, 57, was arrested for abuse of a household member by police responding to a 911 call to the Pualei Circle home at 11:35 p.m.

His girlfriend told officers she was struck by the actor, but she refused treatment. Police said she had bruises on her legs.

Tagawa was released today at 12:45 a.m. after posting $1,000 bail. He has an appearance scheduled Nov. 29 at District Court.

Tagawa has appeared most recently on NBC's hit "Heroes" and "Balls of Fury." His long list of movies includes "Memoirs of a Geisha," "Pearl Harbor" and "Planet of the Apes."
