Kamehameha third in Las Vegas Classic

Kamehameha defeated La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad, Calif.), 25-16, 26-28, 25-18, yesterday to take third place in the prestigious 32-team Durango (Las Vegas) Fall Classic.
The two-time defending state champion Warriors, ranked No. 2 in The Advertiser's statewide Top 10 poll of coaches and media, won their pool Friday and swept Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, 25-13, 25-19, in yesterday's qualifying round and Redondo (Calif.) Union, 25-23, 26-24, in the quarterfinals before falling to Assumption (Louisville, Ky.), 25-17, 22-25, 25-18 in the semifinals.
Assumption, No. 1 in prepvolleyball.com's preseason national rankings, lost to current No. 1 Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), 25-18, 25-19, in the championship match.
