Bill offers relief for fire victims
Advertiser Staff
Farmers and ranchers affected by a weeklong wildfire in August that burned 7,000 acres could get some relief if a bill introduced by City Council member Donovan Dela Cruz is adopted.
Bill 77, introduced last week, would remit property taxes due for land dedicated for a specific agriculture use provided that the property was damaged by the fire occurring the week of Aug. 12. Vacant land will not qualify. Farmers who request remittance will need to pay the minimum property tax of $100.
Dela Cruz also introduced Resolution 07-311 urging the state to provide tax relief.
