Hawaii's Hittle honored by WAC

University of Hawai'i outsider hitter Tara Hittle was named the Western Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week, the conference office announced today.
Hittle, a junior from Colorado, had 27 digs and a .388 hitting percentage in UH's wins against Nevada and Fresno State.
She is averaging 2.48 kills per game this season.
Hawai'i (13-3 overall, 7-0 WAC) remained No. 12 in this week's College Sports Television/American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll.
New Mexico State (16-3) of the WAC moved up two spots to 20th.
UH plays its next four matches on the road, beginning with Boise State on Thursday.
BASKETBALL
GIBSON TOP PICK FOR TWILIGHT 'OHANA
Matt Gibson was the top draft pick for the men's intrasquad scrimmage that will highlight the Twilight 'Ohana event for the University of Hawai'i basketball teams Friday.
Gibson, a 6-5 senior, averaged 10.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as the starting point guard last season.
Fellow senior Bobby Nash was the second selection. Nash, a 6-6 wing player, averaged 11.2 points per game last season.
The draft was conducted by the UH coaches yesterday.
New assistant coaches Larry Farmer and Eran Ganot will serve as the coaches for the scrimmage. First-year head coach Bob Nash will be an impartial observer.
The Twilight 'Ohana is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday — the first day basketball teams are allowed to start practicing, per NCAA rules.
The event will feature an autograph session, a 3-point shooting contest and a slam-dunk contest. The women's intrasquad scrimmage is scheduled to start around 9 p.m., with the men's scrimmage around 9:20.

KIMBERLY KIM, CHAN KIM FINISH SECOND
Former Big Island resident Kimberly Kim and former Kaimuki High student Chan Kim finished runners-up yesterday at the Ping Invitational in Stillwater, Okla.
In the girls division, Kimberly Kim, now living in Arizona, shot a 72 yesterday and finished at 223 on the Karsten Creek Golf Club. She was five strokes behind medalist Vicky Hurst of Melbourne, Fla. Punahou senior Stephanie Kono of Honolulu finished tied for third at 73—224.
In the boys division, Chan Kim, a former Kaimuki High student now living in Arizona, finished runner-up after a 74—222. Gregor Main of Danville, Calif., won with 75—214.
In the Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic in Mexico, Honolulu's Colton Knedler finished 19th (72—227) and Honolulu's Bou-An Fujieki was 50th (87—248).
In the girls division, 'Aiea's Anna Jang finished tied for sixth after a 73—227.
