Indians coaches to hold baseball clinics

Cleveland Indians manager Eric Wedge and five of his coaches will be coming to Honolulu next month to conduct three baseball clinics for O'ahu ballplayers and their coaches.

The clinics will be sponsored by the Elite Sports Academy.

ESA Senior Director Leroy Nicolas said clinics for players will be held at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 10 for ages 8 to 12 and Nov. 11 for ages 13 to 18. The cost for each day is $100 a person. A two-hour coaches clinic will be held Nov. 12 with the time, location and cost of the coaches' clinic to be announced later.

"The Elite Sports Academy is excited that Cleveland Indians coaches and manager Eric Wedge have committed to helping our local players and coaches improve their baseball skills," Nicolas said.

GET INSTRUCTIONS FROM 'GIRLS WHO SURF'

Attend a monthly "Girls Who Surf" and get coaching and tips from female instructors.

However, don't be fooled by the name. The lessons are open to boys and girls.

Instructions will be available for first-time beginners to those who need help with their bottom turns and cutbacks.

The next event will be held Nov. 3 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. with discounted kama'aina group lessons available.

Discounted rate is $50 a person and includes surf board, rash guard and aqua shoe rental as well as 1.5 hours of surf instruction.

LACROSSE EVENT HAS GAMES, CLINICS

The Hawaii Lacrosse Invitational Tournament, featuring more than 40 teams from Japan, Canada, the Mainland and Hawai'i, will be Oct. 26 to 28 at Kapi'olani Park.

In conjunction with the tournament, there will be a free youth clinic Oct. 26 at 4 p.m., also at Kapi'olani Park.

Two youth exhibitions involving Hawai'i girls and boys will be Oct. 28 at noon.

Free clinics will be held Nov. 18 at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park and at Kapi'olani Park. Both start at 2 p.m.

HONOLULU MARATHON ENTRIES UP SO FAR

Entries for the Honolulu Marathon are 721 ahead of the same time last year, according to the race's registration office.
